CMS/Connect Usage Notes

16 April 2010

Well, most of the use notes for CMS/Connect are maintained withing the (always growing!) online documentation located at the Documention link.

There are, however, some things you'll want to know after installing CMS/Connect.

Do not modify CMS/Connect or make modifications to the CMS/Connect Universe

The CMS/Connect Universe uses non-traditional query technology in order to leverage the Web Intelligence reporting platform against your SAP Business Objects deployment's metadata assets (CMS, services, security and more).  In order to maintain its integrity, the universe should not be modified under any circumstance to guarantee that it works correctly (despite the temptation!)

The CMS/Connect standalone (evaluation) version can cannot be exported to the CMS.

Well, it can, but not easily.  However, if you'd like to start publishing your reports to the CMS and have other end-users make use of the CMS/Connect Universe from a centrally hosted location (eg. a Web Intelligence reporting server) then let us know - we'd love to provide you with the CMS/Connect Enterprise Edition. CCEE will be made available in the downloads section shortly as well. Both CMS/Connect Community Edition and Enterprise Editions allow full export to the CMS and are usable via Webi Rich Client or InfoView report authoring modes. There is no limit to the number of or how many CMS repositories CMS/Connect can be exported to depending on licensing.

Start using CMS/Reports to become familiar with how reporting with CMS/Connect works

We've put together some exciting new blog entries that will help you familiarize yourself with the CMS/Connect Universe.  Over time we'll continually update the site with new and interesting analyses that will help you get the maximum benefit from using CMS/Connect by jumping right into the heart of your installation without having to waste time with actual report development.  Here are the currently available CMS/Reports:

  1. CMS Object Catalog: Retrieve a complete hierarchical object listing of your CMS
  2. Scheduled Objects and Instances: a complete listing of all scheduled objects in the CMS
  3. Security Viewer Report: analyze folder security across users and usergroups both hierarchically and matrix views for Excel export

As always, if you have any comments or questions regarding the CMS/Connect installation, using the universe or other thoughts, then don't hesitate to post a comment at the end of this note and we'll get right to it!

Happy Reporting!
