Universe Overview

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The CMS/Connect universe is divided into three main areas:

Within the actual universe, each section is represented by multiple classes and sub-classes that define these areas.  We'll look into more detailed descriptions as to what these actual object classes consist of, but for now let's understand these general areas.

Base object properties

Every object stored in a Business Objects deployment has properties that are common to all of them. Properties like name, date of creation, last time updated, creator, schedule, location, filestore path, parent folder, etc - are all considered base properties.

Subject-area specific metadata

CMS/Connect categorizes those properties specific to the object it describes - in its own classes.  For example, supposing a query to determine Universes and the Web Intelligence reports used by them, was needed.  To do so , we would obtain objects from the Universes universe class and drag-and-drop objects within it for our report.  The same thing might be done to query for the Groups to which users belong, by using the User Groups class.  Additionally, many classes in this section have sub-classes that further identify details of the parent class.

Security, rights and access

Security information is queried from this section of the universe, which is actually just one universe class - Security and Rights.  Information about a user or user groups roles, access levels and individual rights about any content in the CMS, is obtained from this class.
