Settings Overview

The Settings dialog (Preferences > Settings... in MMA) holds server-wide options that apply to every environment. The pages below document, field by field, the dialog pages that matter on a Power BI installation.

  • General

    Server port and SSL, password restrictions, connection banner.

  • Email

    SMTP server and recipients for notifications and backup job emails.

  • Notifications

    Disk space and security-change notifications.

  • System

    Server memory, CPU limit, Java temp folder, directory services.

  • Meta Query

    MetaQuery agent memory, threads, timeout and the MetaQuery web console.

  • Web Apps

    Power BI usage dashboards on or off, and the user group scope.

  • Advanced

    Drop the Power BI schema, API authorization, metrics storage.

Pages not covered here

The dialog also shows Audit, Pull and Metrics. Their options apply to SAP BusinessObjects; leave them at their defaults on a Power BI-only installation.

The Backup page holds one option that affects Power BI: Backup Archive Path, the folder where Power BI backup archives are written (by default server\alerts\archives\, with Power BI archives under its pbi subfolder). The path must be writable by the account that runs the metaminer service; for a UNC path use a service account with access to the share. The versioning options on that page apply to BusinessObjects only. See How Backup Works.

How saving works

  • Each page shows a description of the field under the mouse in its Description panel. Press F1 for context help.
  • OK saves all pages together into the properties section of server\config\config.json. Cancel discards changes.
  • If the MetaMiner Server (MMS) is running, MMA asks whether to restart it now. Restart to be sure every change takes effect.

Settings that always need a restart

Server port, server SSL, server memory and Java temp folder take effect only after the server restarts. Memory and temp folder are written into the metaminer Windows service command line.
