The Power BI Backup Tab

The Power BI Backup tab in the MetaMiner Client (MMC) lists your backup jobs at the top and the archives they produced at the bottom, with the actions for each.

The tab appears when at least one Power BI environment is enabled. It lists jobs and archives for every enabled Power BI environment you can see. Using it requires the MetaMiner Tenant Admin permission (see Prerequisites and Access).

Backup jobs grid

Column Shows
Name The job name.
Owner The MetaMiner user who created the job.
Workspaces The workspaces in the job's selection.
Contents What the job captures: Item definitions, plus any of Workspace access, Item access, Folders, Workspace settings, .pbix.
Schedule Manual, or a description of the schedule. Hover to see the full text, including start and end.
Validity Valid, or Invalid with the reason (for example, no access to a workspace). An invalid job does not run.
Last run Start time of the most recent run.
Last result OK, OK, with warnings - ..., Skipped - ..., or the reason the last run failed.

Double-click a job to open it in the Edit backup job wizard.

Job actions

The toolbar above the grid and the right-click menu on a row offer the same actions.

Action What it does
New Opens the New backup job wizard. See Create a Backup Job.
Edit Opens the selected job in the wizard. The environment cannot be changed.
Run now Runs the selected job immediately. See Run and Monitor Jobs.
Delete job Deletes the job after confirmation. Its run history is kept and its archives are not deleted.
Run history... Lists every run of the selected job, including failed and running ones.
Refresh Reloads both grids. Scheduled runs that finished on the server appear after a refresh.

Archives grid

Column Shows
Archive The archive name: the job name at backup time plus the run id.
Job The job's current name, (deleted) if the job was deleted, or (ad-hoc) if the archive has no job.
Owner The job owner at backup time.
Environment The Power BI environment it was taken from.
Created When the run created it. Newest first.
Objects Number of objects in the archive.
Contents What was captured (same wording as the jobs grid).
Method Bulk export, Per-object or Mixed: how the workspaces' content was captured.
Size Archive size in KB.

Show all

With Show all ticked (the default), the grid lists every archive. Clear it to list only the archives of the job selected in the upper grid.

Archive actions

Action What it does
Restore Opens the restore wizard for the selected archive. See Restore Content.
View contents Opens the read-only Archive contents dialog. Double-clicking an archive does the same. See Browse an Archive.
Delete Deletes the archive file from the server after confirmation. This cannot be undone. The run stays in run history.

Tip

Double-click never starts a restore. It opens the read-only contents view, so you can check an archive before restoring from it.
