Licenses

The Licenses view of the Entra Users/Groups tab lists each Microsoft license SKU in your tenant, how many units are used, and which users hold it, directly, through a group, or without using it.

How it works

MetaMiner collects the tenant's subscribed SKUs and each user's license assignments from Microsoft Graph, and combines them with Power BI activity events. The view is built from that collected data. It needs the Tenant Admin permission, like the rest of the tab; see Entra Users and Groups.

Environment
License SKU (for example Power BI Pro)
    Group-Based Assignments
Assigning group > users who get the license from this group
Direct Assignments > users assigned the license directly
Ghost Users > licensed users with no activity in the last 90 days

A user appears under Ghost Users instead of the other two categories when they hold the license but have no Power BI activity in the last 90 days.

Open the view

  1. Open the Entra Users/Groups tab.
  2. In the View Mode filter section, choose Licenses.
  3. Expand a SKU, then a category.

From another view, right-click a user or group and choose Show in Licenses View to jump straight to them.

SKU rows

Column On a SKU row
Name SKU display name, or part number when there is no display name
Identifier SKU part number
Principal Type License
Account Status The SKU's status in Microsoft, for example Enabled
Licenses Assigned units
Members Total units
Total Members Available units

Hover over a SKU name for a summary: Assigned, Total, Available and Utilization as a percentage. A SKU with more units assigned than purchased is marked Over-subscribed.

TODO: confirm how Total and Available map to Microsoft Graph subscribedSku units

Source to check: Microsoft Graph subscribedSku (prepaidUnits.enabled, consumedUnits) against the values shown for a tenant with suspended or warning units.
