Power BI Explorer¶
The Power BI Explorer tab shows every collected workspace and its content as one tree per Power BI environment, and is the starting point for impact analysis, security, activity, export and access management.

How it works¶
The tab appears when Power BI is enabled on the MetaMiner Server (MMS) and you load at least one Power BI environment. The tree is built from the environment snapshot, so browsing and filtering do not call Microsoft. Press F5 to load the newest snapshot. See Refresh and Background Tasks.
Which workspaces you see depends on how you signed in:
| Sign-in | Workspaces shown |
|---|---|
| No Power BI sign-in configured | Every workspace MetaMiner collected from the tenant, including workspaces marked deleted |
| Power BI sign-in, normal view | The workspaces your Microsoft account can access in Power BI |
| Power BI sign-in, Tenant Admin View on | Every workspace in the tenant, including workspaces marked deleted. Needs the Tenant Admin permission. See Tenant Admin View. |
When the Tenant Admin View button is pressed, the toolbar shows Admin View and later reloads keep the full view until you release the button.
Tree structure¶
| Level | Contents |
|---|---|
| Environment | One row per loaded Power BI environment (tenant) |
| Workspace | Shared workspaces, listed directly under the environment |
| Personal Workspaces | A group row that holds users' personal workspaces ("My workspace") |
| App | The workspace's app. Reports and dashboards published in the app are listed under it instead of directly under the workspace |
| Report | A report. Its semantic model is listed under it, with that model's data sources |
| Dashboard | A dashboard, with its tiles. Each tile lists the report or semantic model it shows |
| Semantic model | A semantic model (dataset), with its data sources and tables |
| Dataflow | A dataflow, with its data sources |
| Fabric item | Lakehouses, warehouses, notebooks, pipelines and other Fabric items, each shown with its item type |
Under a workspace, items are listed in this order: app, reports, dashboards, semantic models, dataflows, Fabric items. Workspaces marked deleted in Microsoft appear in red; hover over one for the tooltip. With Power BI sign-in they appear only in Tenant Admin View.
Columns¶
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | Item name |
| Created | When the item was created, where Microsoft reports it |
| Updated | When the item was last modified, where Microsoft reports it |
| Owner | The configured owner or creator reported by Microsoft |
| Capacity | The capacity the workspace runs on |
| Size | Item size, where Microsoft reports it |
| # Objs | Number of items in a container |
TODO: confirm which item types fill the Created, Updated, Owner and Size columns
