A web app launcher is disabled when you are not connected. It reports This web app is turned off on this MetaMiner Server when the administrator has not enabled the app, and You do not have access to this web app. when your role lacks the permission for it: client access in a Power BI environment for Power BI Usage, and Tab: Meta Query for MetaQuery Web.

The File menu also lists BusinessObjects logon items and a BO Console launcher, and the Find menu lists Find Objects by ID... and Find Objects by CUID.... These work only with SAP BusinessObjects environments. In the Power BI Explorer, use quick search instead.

Tabs

Each tab is one work area. Tabs appear after you connect, in this order, when their conditions are met.

Tab Shown when Page
Alerts License edition includes alerting, and you hold Tab: Alerts in every loaded environment Not covered on this site
Meta Query License edition includes Meta Query, and you hold Tab: Meta Query in every loaded environment Meta Query
Power BI Explorer Power BI is enabled on the MMS and a Power BI environment is loaded Power BI Explorer
Power BI Backup Same as Power BI Explorer The Power BI Backup Tab
Entra Users/Groups Same as Power BI Explorer, and you hold Tenant Admin in at least one loaded Power BI environment Entra Users and Groups

When you load only Power BI environments, the client opens on the Power BI Explorer. Otherwise it returns to the tab you used last.

How permissions decide tab visibility

Permissions are granted per environment in the MetaMiner Administrator (MMA). See Permissions Reference.

  • When the MMS does not use MetaMiner user security, every permission is granted.
  • Tab: Meta Query and Tab: Alerts apply to every environment type. They must be granted on every environment you load.
  • Tenant Admin needs to be granted on only one loaded Power BI environment for the Entra Users/Groups tab to show.

Tip

If a tab disappears after you enable one more environment in the Connection Manager, your role lacks that tab's permission on the new environment.

Closable tabs

Some actions open extra tabs with a close button: Open in New Tab, Explore Security, View Impacted Objects... (the Power BI IA tab) and Meta Query Show as Tree. These tabs work on a copy of the data at the time you opened them. Close them when you are done.
