Object Actions

Reference for every action on the right-click menu of the Power BI Explorer, which rows it applies to, and the permission or setup it needs.

How the menu is built

The menu is built each time you right-click, from the rows you selected. An action that does not apply to the selection, or that your role does not allow, is left out. MetaMiner permissions are granted per environment in the MetaMiner Administrator (MMA); see Permissions Reference. When MetaMiner user security is off, every permission is granted.

If your selection includes an environment row together with other rows, the menu offers only Open in Default Browser.

Impact analysis is available for workspaces, apps, reports, dashboards, semantic models, semantic model tables, data sources and dataflows. The security matrix shows access for workspaces, reports, dashboards, semantic models and dataflows. Fabric items such as lakehouses and notebooks are listed in the tree with Properties..., Copy Text and Open in New Tab.

Live and collected data

Manage Access..., Restore workspace and Archive content... work on the live tenant. All other actions use the data MetaMiner already collected, so a change made in Power BI shows only after the next collection.

View Activities

View Activities lists the Power BI activity events MetaMiner collected for the item: who did what, and when. With several workspaces selected, the window title shows the number of workspaces and events.

The window can also show the SQL MetaMiner used, so you can refine the query in Meta Query.

If the window reports No activities found, the item had no events in the collected period, or activity collection is not set up for the environment. See What MetaMiner Collects.

TODO: list the columns of the Activities window and confirm how the SQL is shown

The new tab is named Power BI Explorer with a number and has a close button. It holds a copy of the rows at the time you opened it, with its own filters and the same actions. If the selection is very large, the client asks you to confirm before it opens the tab. Close copies you no longer need.
