Install the Client¶
Install the MetaMiner Client on a user workstation and connect it to the MetaMiner Server.
Before you begin¶
- A 64-bit Windows workstation with local administrator rights for the installation.
- The client-only installer,
MetaMiner-ENTERPRISE-CLIENT-ONLY-windows-x64-5.2.<build>.exe, of the same build as the server. - The MetaMiner Server host name and port (default 49714), and a firewall path from the workstation to it.
- A running MetaMiner Server with at least one enabled and validated Power BI environment.
Client on the server host
On the MetaMiner server host, install the client with the full installer (component MetaMiner Client). The client-only installer refuses a folder that already contains the MetaMiner Server.
Steps¶
- Right-click the client-only installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Accept the license agreement and keep the default folder
C:\Program Files\Infolytik\MetaMiner, or choose another. Click Next until the installation finishes. - Start MetaMiner from the Start menu. The Connection Manager opens and looks for MetaMiner Servers on the local network.
- Select the server from the auto-detected list, or type its name in MetaMiner Server Host: and its port in MetaMiner Server Port:.
- Click Connect. If MetaMiner user security is on, a login prompt appears; enter your MetaMiner user name and password.
- Under Select one or more BI environments:, check your Power BI environment.
- Optionally select Reconnect on startup, then click Apply. If the administrator turned on Power BI SSO, the Power BI sign-in dialog opens; click Sign in with Microsoft and finish the sign-in in your browser. See Delegated User Sign-In. The client loads the environment and opens the Power BI Explorer.

Verify¶
- The status bar shows a connected icon and the time the data was loaded.
- The Power BI Explorer tab shows the workspaces of your tenant.
Troubleshooting¶
Auto-detection finds no server
Firewalls often block the UDP multicast used for auto-detection. Type the host and port and click Connect. See Network and Microsoft Endpoints.
Incompatible Versions
The client and the server come from different builds. Install the client from the same release as the server.
No Power BI environment is listed
The server has no enabled, validated Power BI environment, or your MetaMiner user has no access to one. Ask the administrator to validate and enable the environment in the MetaMiner Administrator and restart the server, or to grant you access.
The Power BI Explorer is empty right after the first start
The first collection is still scanning workspaces. The Power BI Explorer checks for new data every 10 minutes. See Verify the First Collection.
The client runs out of memory on a large tenant
Raise the client heap in client\MetaMiner.ini. The full installer keeps your memory and -D settings when it upgrades the client. See Memory and JVM.
The server uses SSL
The client must trust the server certificate. See Client to Server SSL.
