Toolbar and Export

Each tree tab in the MetaMiner Client (MMC) has a toolbar for search, tree navigation, selection and export of what you see to CSV or Excel; Meta Query results can also go to a Microsoft Fabric lakehouse.

Toolbar controls

Control What it does
Quick search box, Strict Filters the tree by name. See Filters and Search.
Expand all, Collapse all Expands every node, or collapses the tree to the first level
Selection drop-down Selects rows by type; see below
Export drop-down Exports the rows you see; see below
Loaded at When the tab's data was loaded
Tenant Admin View (Power BI Explorer) Shows every workspace in the tenant instead of only yours. Visible only with Power BI sign-in and the Tenant Admin permission. See Tenant Admin View.

Selection drop-down

In the Power BI Explorer, the selection drop-down changes the selection within the visible rows. Use it before a bulk action such as Manage Access... or View Activities.

Option Selects
Select none Nothing
Select workspaces Workspace rows only
Select all Every visible row

Export what you see

The export drop-down remembers the option you used last; click the button to repeat it, or open the arrow to choose another.

Option Result
Export to CSV... Saves the shown rows to a CSV file. Collapsed rows and rows hidden by filters are not exported.
Export to Excel... Saves the shown rows to an Excel workbook
Export to Fabric Lakehouse... Meta Query results only. Writes the result as CSV or Parquet to a lakehouse in your tenant. See below.

The exported file includes a path column for each item, the item kind, the active filters and the local time zone used for dates.

Steps: export to CSV

  1. Filter and expand the tree until it shows the rows you need.
  2. Open the export drop-down and choose Export to CSV....
  3. Choose a folder and file name in Export Shown Items to CSV File, then click Export. If the file exists, confirm the overwrite.
  4. Open the file to check it. The client reports Export Complete.

CSV separator

To use another separator, for example a semicolon for a European Excel, set CSV Export Separator: in Preferences. Type \t for a tab.

Export to a Fabric lakehouse

From the Meta Query result grid, Export to Fabric Lakehouse... writes the result straight from your computer to a lakehouse, signed in as you. MetaMiner does not keep the Microsoft tokens it uses for this after the dialog closes.

Requirements:

  • Your license edition includes the feature.
  • A Power BI environment is loaded, and your administrator turned on browser sign-in for Power BI. See Connect to a Server.
  • Your organization consented to the Fabric and Azure Storage permissions MetaMiner requests. See Delegated User Sign-In.
  • Your Microsoft account can write to the target lakehouse.

Steps:

  1. Run the query and open the export drop-down of the result grid.
  2. Choose Export to Fabric Lakehouse.... Sign in to Microsoft if asked.
  3. In Export to Fabric Lakehouse, choose the Environment: and the Lakehouse:.
  4. Choose the Format: (CSV or Parquet), the Folder: and the File name:. Target: shows the full path under the lakehouse Files area.
  5. Click Export. Confirm if a file already exists at that path. The client reports Exported to and the path.

Export to Fabric Lakehouse requires Power BI interactive sign-in

Your administrator has not turned on browser sign-in for Power BI. See Delegated User Sign-In.

An administrator must grant the Fabric export permissions for your organization

The tenant has not consented to the permissions the export needs. Ask a Microsoft Entra administrator to grant consent.

No lakehouses found

Your account cannot see a lakehouse in that environment, or it was created minutes ago. Wait a few minutes and reopen the dialog.

Export from other places

Most result windows have the same export drop-down, for example the Power BI IA graph, the security matrix and the Entra dialogs (Export to CSV).

Troubleshooting

Error during CSV export or Excel export

The file may be open in Excel or the folder may be read-only. Close the file or choose another folder, then export again.

The export has fewer rows than the tree

Only shown rows are exported. Expand the nodes you need first, or use Expand all.
