Host Metrics

MetaMiner collects CPU, memory and process metrics from your BusinessObjects hosts and from the MetaMiner Server itself, for the Monitor web app and Pulse dashboards.

How it works

Source What is collected Interval
MetaMiner Remote Metric Agent on each BusinessObjects node Host CPU and memory; per-process metrics for BusinessObjects server processes Set by Settings > Metrics > Poll period for remote metrics agent: (default 5 seconds)
MetaMiner Server (MMS) Its own Java memory 5 seconds
MetaMiner Server (MMS) Disk usage and MMDB size 30 seconds

MMS matches agent processes to the BusinessObjects servers it knows from the CMS, so metrics appear per BusinessObjects server, not just per process ID. Samples are stored in the metrics schema of the MMDB, in hourly partitions, and also in InfluxDB for Pulse.

Before you begin

  • The MMDB is PostgreSQL (embedded or external).
  • Each BusinessObjects node can reach the MetaMiner Server port (default 49714).

Steps

  1. Install the MetaMiner Remote Metric Agent on every BusinessObjects node that runs BusinessObjects servers. The installer mmagent-installer-<version>.exe is in the server folder. See Installing the Remote Metric Agents.
  2. Optional: in MMA, open Preferences > Settings... > Metrics and set Poll period for remote metrics agent:.
  3. To view metrics in the browser, turn on Pulse (/web/monitor) in Settings > WebApps. See Web Apps.
  4. Open the Monitor app; see Monitor.

Retention

Raw samples are rolled up into summaries and old partitions are dropped by a background job on the MetaMiner Server.

TODO: state raw and rolled-up retention periods for host metrics

Source to check: the host-metrics rollup job configuration. Add how long raw and summarized data are kept and whether it is configurable.

Host metrics switch (system property)

MMS samples its own JVM and disk and stores agent samples in the MMDB while metrics.pg.enabled is true (default). Change it only on advice from Infolytik Support.

Verify

  • The Monitor app lists each BusinessObjects host with recent values.
  • The MMDB metrics schema receives new rows; see Direct MMDB Access.

Troubleshooting

A host shows no data

Check that the agent service runs on that node and that the node can reach the MetaMiner Server port through firewalls. Agent samples that cannot be stored are logged in server.log.
