Relationships and Structure

Find the objects related to a universe, connection or document, look inside a Web Intelligence document or universe, and find the documents that use given universe objects.

License and permission

These views read MetaMiner metadata only and change nothing in BusinessObjects. View Relationships and Impact Analysis need a license with the BusinessObjects client features. View Structure needs Web Intelligence metadata processing (documents) or universe metadata processing (universes) in your license. View Versions... needs the "View versions" permission. See Editions and Licensing and Permissions Reference.

Data comes from the pull

Relationships and structure come from the metadata MMS extracted during the pull. If document processing is turned off for an environment, these views are empty or partial. See Document Processing.

View relationships

  1. Select one or more universes, connections or documents.
  2. Right-click and choose View > View Relationships.

Result: a closable tab opens with the related objects.

Selected The tab shows
Universe Documents related to the universe
Connection Objects related to the connection (universes and documents)
Document Objects related to the document (universes, connections and other objects it uses)

Matching rows are highlighted. Use the toolbar to filter by name and export to CSV or Excel.

Partial licenses

If your license allows structure for only some documents, the client lists the documents you are allowed to open. With a Basic Edition license the export button of the Universe Structure tab is disabled.

Universe impact analysis

Find which documents use given universe objects before you change or remove them.

  1. Select one or more universes.
  2. Right-click and choose Impact Analysis (top of the menu).
  3. In the Impact Analysis - Universe tab, expand the universes and select the classes or objects to check.
  4. Right-click and choose View Impacted Documents.

Result: the Impacted Universe Objects window lists, for each object, the Universe, Class, Data Provider, Document, Kind, Folder path, Last Access By and Last Access On. Export it with the toolbar export button.

Universe restrictions (overloads) are not part of the impact tree.

For impact starting from database tables and columns, use Database Impact.

View versions

When MetaMiner keeps versions of an object, select it and choose View > View Versions.... The versions open in Visual Diff, where you can compare and, with the "Restore version" permission, restore a version.

TODO: state which object types and server settings enable versions

Source to check: Backup settings (webi.keep.history, unx.keep.history) in Backup and the Visual Diff page.
