Client System Variables

Java options and saved preferences that change how the MetaMiner Client (MMC) starts and behaves on one machine.

Where they are set

Kind File Scope How to change
Java options (-X..., -D...) client\MetaMiner.ini in the installation folder Every user of that installation Edit as administrator, then restart the MMC
Preferences %APPDATA%\MetaMiner\config\.metaMinerPreferences One Windows user Through the MMC user interface

Add Java options at the end of MetaMiner.ini, below the comment lines, as vmarg.<n>=<option>. Number them consecutively after the last existing vmarg; a gap stops the launcher from reading the lines after it. Do not change the lines above the comment that says they must not be modified.

client\MetaMiner.ini (end of file, example)
vmarg.28=-Xms1g
vmarg.29=-Xmx4g
vmarg.30=-Dmq.large.resultset=256
vmarg.31=-Dcmsexplorer.new_tab.row.limit=100000

An installer upgrade can replace MetaMiner.ini. Keep a copy of your additions and re-apply them after an upgrade.

TODO: confirm whether the full and update installers preserve a customised client MetaMiner.ini

Source to check: install4j projects. Update this note when confirmed.

Memory

Option Default Effect
-Xmx 1g Maximum heap of the MMC. Raise it for large repositories or many environments at once
-Xms 1g Initial heap. Keep it at or below -Xmx

See Performance and Memory.

Result and display limits

-Dmq.large.resultset 128 (MB) Meta Query asks for confirmation before loading a result larger than this
-Dmq.huge.resultset 576 (MB) Meta Query refuses to load a result larger than this
-Dcmsexplorer.new_tab.row.limit 50000 Maximum rows copied when you open a selection in a new tab
-Dshow.mms.name true Shows the MetaMiner Server name in the window title; false hides it
-Dshow.server.ip.in.title false true also shows the server's IP address in the window title
-Dmm.i18n true false hides the language menu

Feature options

Variable Default Effect
-DForceOnDemandPullAction true false removes Force On Demand Pull... from the environment row menu
-Dforce.promotion true Default promotion mode in Export to CMS
-Dbiar.include.dependencies false true shows the "including dependencies" option when you save a BIAR
-Darchive.folders.option false true shows the archive folders option in alerts

Trust store for SSL

The MMC trusts the certificates in the trust store of its Java runtime. It does not read the Windows certificate store. To use your own trust store, add:

client\MetaMiner.ini (example)
vmarg.30=-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore=C:\certs\metaminer-truststore.jks
vmarg.31=-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword=<password>

See Client to Server SSL.

Preferences saved per user

Preference key Default Set in the MMC with
autoconnect.on.startup true Reconnect on startup in the Connection Manager
ui.theme light Theme (Light or Dark) in the preferences; takes effect after restarting the MMC
locale.language Windows language Choose Language... (English or French)
mm.host, mm.port none The server and port you connect to in the Connection Manager

File > Forget Credentials... removes the saved MetaMiner user name and password for the current Windows user.
