Toolbar and Export

Each tree tab in the MetaMiner Client (MMC) has a toolbar for search, tree navigation, selection and export of what you see to CSV, Excel or a Meta Query SQL sheet.

Toolbar controls

Control What it does
Quick search box, Strict Filters the tree by name. See Filters and Search.
Expand all, Collapse all Expands every node, or collapses the tree to the first level
Public Folders button (CMS Explorer, icon only) Collapses all nodes down to the first level of Public Folders and turns on the Folders filter
Selection drop-down (CMS Explorer) Selects rows by type; see below
Export drop-down Exports the rows you see; see below
Loaded at When the tab's data was created or loaded

Selection drop-down

The CMS Explorer selection drop-down changes the selection within the visible rows. Use it before a bulk action such as Delete, Export to... or Modify Description....

Option Selects
Select all Every visible row
Select none Nothing
Select instances only Scheduled instances only
Select non-instances only Everything except instances
Select universes only Universes only
Select folder contents only The objects inside folders, not the folders themselves
Select folders only Folders only

Export what you see

The export drop-down remembers the option you used last; click the button to repeat it, or open the arrow to choose another.

Option Result
Export to CSV... Saves the shown rows to a CSV file. Collapsed rows and rows hidden by filters are not exported.
Export to Excel... Saves the shown rows to an Excel workbook
Export to Meta Query CMS Explorer only. Opens a new SQL sheet named CMS Explorer Filters in the Meta Query tab with a query that returns the objects matching the current filters. Needs the Meta Query tab.
Export to Fabric Lakehouse... Shown only when Power BI is licensed on your MetaMiner Server. Writes the rows as CSV or Parquet to a Microsoft Fabric lakehouse after a Power BI interactive sign-in.

The exported file includes a path column for each object, the object kind, the active filters and the local time zone used for dates.

Steps: export to CSV

  1. Filter and expand the tree until it shows the rows you need.
  2. Open the export drop-down and choose Export to CSV....
  3. Choose a folder and file name in Export Shown Items to CSV File, then click Export. If the file exists, confirm the overwrite.
  4. Open the file to check it. The client reports Export Complete.

CSV separator

The default separator follows your client settings. To use another character, for example a semicolon for a European Excel, set CSV Export Separator: in Preferences. Type \t for a tab.

Export from other places

Most result windows have the same export drop-down, for example Explore Security, View Relationships, Universe Structure and Impacted Database Objects. Tables that are not trees, such as the Alerts list or Meta Query results, have their own export button.

Troubleshooting

Error during CSV export or Excel export

The file may be open in Excel or the folder may be read-only. Close the file or choose another folder, then export again.

The export has fewer rows than the tree

Only shown rows are exported. Expand the nodes you need first, or use Expand all.
