Web Console

The Web Console is the set of browser-based MetaMiner Web Apps that the MetaMiner Server (MMS) serves at https://<mms-host>:<port>/web/.

You use it to read your BusinessObjects estate as dashboards, manage BO server settings, watch report delivery, monitor hosts and run read-only SQL against the MetaMiner Database (MMDB), all without installing the MetaMiner Client (MMC).

How it works

The web apps run in their own Windows service, MetaMinerWebApps, next to the MMS. Browsers never talk to that service directly: every request goes to the MMS port (default 49714) under the path /web/, and the MMS forwards it to the Web Apps service on the same machine.

  B[Browser] -->|"https://mms-host:49714/web/..."| MMS[MetaMiner Server]

  MMS -->|same machine only| WA[MetaMinerWebApps service]
  WA --> MMDB[(MetaMiner Database)]
  WA -->|sign-in, BO changes, alerts| MMS
  MMS --> BO[BusinessObjects CMS]

Consequences you should know:

  • The Web Console uses the same host name, port and certificate as the MMC connection. When MMS SSL is on, every web page is served over HTTPS. Turn it on before you open the console to other computers: see SSL Overview.
  • You do not open any extra firewall port for the web apps. The Web Apps service port (49717) answers page requests from the local machine only.
  • Pages read the metadata MetaMiner has already pulled into the MMDB. Pages that change BusinessObjects (server settings, alerts, jobs) send the change through the MMS, which checks your MetaMiner credentials and permissions.

The web apps

App Address What it is for Default
BO console /web/bo/ Home overview, server configuration, Insights dashboards, reliability, system information, publications, notifications and jobs Off
Meta Query on the web /web/metaquery/ Read-only SQL workbench over the MMDB, with saved queries and history Off
Monitor (Pulse) /web/monitor/ Host metrics for BO servers and for the MetaMiner Server Off

The same server can also host the Power BI Usage (/web/pbiusage/) and Tableau Usage (/web/tableauusage/) dashboards when those MetaMiner products are licensed; they are described in their own product documentation.

Open the Web Console

  1. Connect the MMC to the MetaMiner Server.
  2. Open the File menu and choose one of the launchers: Launch Pulse..., Launch BO Console..., Launch MetaQuery Web....
  3. The MMC opens your default browser at http(s)://<server>:<port>/web/<app>/, using HTTPS when your MMC connection uses SSL.

A launcher is greyed out when the MMC is not connected, when the app is turned off on the server ("This web app is turned off on this MetaMiner Server"), or when you lack access ("You do not have access to this web app"). Hover the item to see which.

Type the address directly, for example https://mms01.example.com:49714/web/bo/. Bookmark the pages you use; filters you set on dashboard pages are kept in the page address, so a bookmark or a shared link reopens the same view.
