Allowed Environments

Choose which Tableau environments the Flow Scheduler may run flows in, using the per-environment allowlist in the MetaMiner Administrator (MMA).

Every environment starts disabled. A Tableau environment added in MMA schedules nothing until you enable it here.

How it works

The Flow Scheduler runs a flow in an environment only when both are true:

  1. The environment is Enabled on the Environments tab of Tools > FSS Configuration....
  2. The environment is enabled in MMA as a Tableau environment.

While an environment is disabled, the Flow Scheduler fires no scheduled, Run Now or catch-up runs in it. The sign-in page lists only the environments enabled for the Flow Scheduler.

The allowlist is stored in the Flow Scheduler database, so in a high-availability cluster every node uses the same list.

Before you begin

  • The Flow Scheduler is enabled and running. See Enable the Flow Scheduler.
  • You run MMA on the Flow Scheduler host as a Windows administrator.

Steps

  1. In MMA, choose Tools > FSS Configuration....
  2. Open the Environments tab.
  3. Select Enabled for each environment the Flow Scheduler may use; clear it to stop the Flow Scheduler using one. The status line confirms the change, for example env <id> ENABLED. It applies at once; no restart is needed.
  4. Optional: select SSO Ready for environments whose users sign in with SAML. See Sign-In Options.
Column Shows
Enabled The Flow Scheduler may run flows in this environment
SSO Ready The sign-in page offers only Sign in with SSO for this environment
Env id MetaMiner environment id (the <envId> in REST API calls)
Display name Environment name from MMA
Host Tableau Server host
Last toggle by Who last changed Enabled

Verify

  • The environment appears in Tableau Environment on the web interface sign-in page.
  • Its tasks show next run times on Scheduled Tasks.

Pause an environment for maintenance

Clear Enabled for the environment before a Tableau maintenance window and select it again afterwards. The Flow Scheduler does not run the backlog of slots missed while the environment was disabled; only a slot that came due in the last 10 minutes fires when you enable it again.

If you leave the environment enabled, scheduled runs are held while Tableau Server cannot be reached and are released or skipped when it is back. See Failover and Upgrades.

Troubleshooting

An environment is missing from the Environments tab

The tab lists the Tableau environments MMS knows about. If MMS is stopped, the dialog says "MMS not reachable". Start MMS and click Refresh. A new environment appears after it is saved and enabled in MMA.

I enabled an environment but its tasks still do not run

Check that the environment is also enabled in MMA and that its schedules and tasks are enabled. The Flow Scheduler does not fire an environment's schedules until it knows the Tableau server's time zone. See Troubleshooting.
