Web Interface Tour¶
A walk through the Flow Scheduler web interface: sign-in, the Flows and Scheduled Tasks areas, the flow detail page and the Admin area.
How it works¶
The MetaMiner Server (MMS) serves the web interface at https://<mms-host>:<port>/flowscheduler/ (default port 49714; use http:// only when SSL is not enabled on MMS). In a high-availability setup, open the load balancer address instead. You sign in with a Tableau Server account and work on one site at a time.
What you see depends on your role:
| Role | Sees |
|---|---|
| Any signed-in Tableau user | Flows, Scheduled Tasks, flow detail pages, Run Now, tasks and subscriptions of the flows Tableau lets them see |
| Flow Scheduler admin | Also the Admin tab, Import, Manage Schedules, Clear History and task priority |
Flow Scheduler admins are the Tableau users listed in MetaMiner Administrator (MMA) under Tools > FSS Configuration... > Admins.
Sign-in and site selection¶
- Pick the environment in Tableau Environment.
- Sign in with SSO, a password or a Personal Access Token, then click Connect.
- Pick a site under "Select a site to continue". With one site this step is skipped.
The sign-in options and session rules are on Sign-In Options.
Top bar and sidebar¶
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Import | Opens "Import tasks from Tableau" in a new browser tab (Flow Scheduler admins). See Import Tasks from Tableau. |
| Switch Site | Returns to the site list |
| Disconnect | Signs you out |
The sidebar has three tabs: Flows, Scheduled Tasks (the default) and Admin (Flow Scheduler admins only). On Flows, a project list with a "Filter projects..." box narrows the flows on the right.
Flows¶
Lists the Prep flows you can see on the site.
| Column | Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Flow name; click it to open the flow detail page |
| Project | Tableau project |
| Modified | Last change in Tableau |
| Owner | Flow owner in Tableau. The Owner filter has a Mine option. |
| Enabled tasks / Disabled tasks | How many Flow Scheduler tasks use the flow |
| Outputs | Number of output steps |
A Show all switch (all flows, or only flows you have permission to run) appears only when the MMS setting flowscheduler.show.all.flows.enabled is on. See Configuration Reference.
Scheduled Tasks¶
Lists every task and chain on the site.
| Column | Shows |
|---|---|
| Flow | Flow name; a chain shows "Linked - N steps" |
| Project | Tableau project |
| Schedule | The Flow Scheduler schedule |
| Frequency | Hourly, daily, weekly or monthly |
| Next Run | Next firing, in your local time |
| Priority | Task priority |
| Status | Result of the latest run |
| Task state | Enabled or disabled, with a badge when the schedule is disabled, deleted or missing |
Manage Schedules (Flow Scheduler admins) opens the schedule list. See Schedules.
Flow detail page¶
Click a flow name to open it.
| Area | Contents |
|---|---|
| Header | Back to flows, Open in Tableau, and Clear History (Flow Scheduler admins) |
| Information | Project, flow owner, created and modified dates |
| Actions | Run Now and + Add Schedule |
| Scheduled Tasks tab | The flow's tasks, each with Run, Disable / Enable, Edit, Params, Remove and a task information button. See Tasks. |
| Subscriptions tab | The flow's subscriptions. See Subscriptions and Output. |

Admin¶
Flow Scheduler admins see the Admin tab, with its own tab row:

|---|---|---|

|
| Schedules | Create, edit, preview, enable, disable, delete, run and import schedules. See Schedules. | |
| Subscriptions | Every subscription of the environment. See Subscriptions and Output. | |
| HA / Nodes | Cluster nodes, leader, preferred node and leadership events. See High Availability. | |

When something is unavailable¶
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "Flow Scheduler is offline" (full page) | The browser cannot reach MMS. Retry now checks again. |
| "Flow Scheduler Service is not running. Task scheduling and run management are unavailable." (banner) | MMS is up but the Flow Scheduler is not. You can browse flows but cannot create or manage tasks. |
| "Flow Scheduler Service is up but cannot reach Tableau through MMS..." (banner) | Existing data is shown, but new runs cannot start. |
| "Your session ended (the MetaMiner server may have been restarted). Please sign in again." | Sign in again. See Sign-In Options. |
Display settings¶
An MMA administrator can rename the app title (ui.app.title), the browser tab title (ui.browser.title) and table column headers (ui.column.labels), and switch between the Tableau-style and classic look (ui.theme.tableau). Set them in MMA under Tools > FSS Configuration... > Properties. They apply without a Flow Scheduler restart. See Configuration Reference.
