Import Tasks from Tableau¶
Copy existing Tableau flow tasks and linked tasks, with their schedules and optionally their subscribers, into the Flow Scheduler.
Before you begin¶
- You are a Flow Scheduler admin. The Import button is shown to admins only.
- You are signed in on the site whose tasks you want to import.
- Plan how you will stop the original tasks in Tableau. The import does not delete or disable them.
Steps¶
- Click Import in the top bar. "Import tasks from Tableau" opens in a new browser tab and shows "Scanning Tableau tasks...".
- Review the single tasks and linked task chains found. Items marked "already imported" are skipped.
-
Choose the options:
Option Default Effect Import tasks as enabled Off Off: imported tasks start disabled, for review. On: they run on their schedule at once. Enabling a task, now or later, also activates its imported subscribers. Import each flow's Tableau subscribers too On Creates subscriptions from each flow's Tableau subscriptions on the matching schedule. See Subscriptions and Output. -
Select items, or click Select All, then click Import Selected. The result reads "Import complete: X imported, Y skipped." followed by next steps.
Avoid double runs
After import, disable or remove the original tasks in Tableau Server (its Tasks page), or each flow runs twice: once from Tableau and once from the Flow Scheduler. Do this after you enable the imported tasks.
What the import brings over¶
| Item | Result in the Flow Scheduler |
|---|---|
| Flow task | A task on the matching schedule |
| Linked task | A chain with the same steps and each step's stop-on-failure flag |
| Output steps | All output steps. To run only some, edit the task after import. |
| Tableau subscribers (optional) | Subscriptions on the imported task |
Sync subscriptions later¶
For a row that is already imported, Sync subscriptions repeats the subscriber import. The result reports how many subscriptions were imported, unchanged, or removed because they no longer exist in Tableau.
Verify¶
- The imported tasks appear on Scheduled Tasks, disabled unless you chose Import tasks as enabled.
- After you enable a task and its slot passes, Run History shows a run with trigger
SCHEDULED.
Troubleshooting¶
A flow ran twice at the same time
The original Tableau task is still active. Disable or delete it on Tableau Server's Tasks page.
An item is marked already imported
It was imported before and is skipped. Use Sync subscriptions to refresh its subscribers.
